Tutoring in Sri Lanka is an essential intervention for many children coming from the most impoverished backgrounds who struggle to keep up in school and face challenges in understanding their lessons and completing their assignments. As time goes on, these children may develop negative feelings and anxiety surrounding their academic performance, leading them to repeatedly skip classes, fall behind in their studies, and eventually drop out of school prematurely to seek work to contribute to their families’ income.

In response to this pressing need, we have established an afternoon tutoring program to provide additional support to these vulnerable children. Through this initiative, we aim to bridge the educational gaps and provide the necessary guidance and assistance to help these students succeed academically and stay engaged in their studies. By offering tutoring sessions, we can address their individual learning needs, clarify difficult concepts, and boost their confidence in the classroom.

Our program has already made a significant impact, having assisted thousands of children in need. These children not only receive free tutoring but also benefit from a continuous supply of essential school materials, an afternoon snack to sustain them during the sessions, and a sense of community and belonging through activities like cooking together on Saturdays. These additional supports aim to not only improve their academic performance but also to uplift their spirits, foster a sense of belonging, and motivate them to strive for a brighter future.
